Holiday Cookout Food Seized As Contraband At A State Prison

On July 5th, the state prison system posted on its social media, what was seized as contraband at the Ellis Unit between Huntsville and Trinity.

Officers seized food items that could have been used during a holiday cookout. That included one bottle of Whataburger ketchup, bottles of mayonnaise and mustard, two bags of Doritos chips (Cool Ranch and Nacho Cheese), and two packages of hamburger buns.

Also seized, were two pounds of pipe tobacco, 16 packages of tobacco wrapping paper, and two vape pens.

An arrest was made on charges of bringing prohibited items into a correctional facility and unlawful carrying of a weapon.

The prison system post said the man who was arrested admitted attempting to drop off the food and tobacco products to his friend who was inside the unit.

The arrest took place after officers noticed the accused was parked next to the Ellis Unit’s hog barn for an extended period of time.
