Highways Blocked in B/CS

Local police dealt with two traffic issues Friday that closed roads.

Bryan police reported Highway 21 was closed for about one hour Friday afternoon between Texas and Martin Luther King Street. That’s after a load of pipe flew off a semi trailer. No one was hurt, after the pipe hit a parked car and also damaged fences and a concrete retaining wall. Officers were told this happened after the semi driver swerved to avoid hitting another vehicle and the load shifted off the trailer.

Before that, College Station police report two SUV’s struck each other on the freeway. This was reported at 11:15 a.m. in the northbound lanes just north of Rock Prairie. The 27 year old driver and five passengers in a Suburban were taken to a local hospital where they were treated for injuries not believed to be life threatening. The ages of the passengers were 19, 14, 4, 2, and one month. The driver of an Armada was not hurt. Investigators determined the driver of the Suburban braked hard and swerved to avoid traffic in front that had slowed. Then the Suburban swerved the other way to avoid hitting a retaining wall, in the process skidding into the Armada. Northbound traffic was diverted off the freeway for about one hour following the crash.
