High Island Residents Return After Ike

HIGH ISLAND, Texas (AP) _ Some displaced residents of High Island started the week in new homes after Hurricane Ike damaged or destroyed their places.

Trailers provided by the Federal Emergency Management Agency became available Sunday in the Galveston County town of about 500.

KHOU-TV reports FEMA is also building a park with about 50 trailers. The High Island Independent School District has agreed to allow the park to be built on school property.

Ike slammed Southeast Texas on Sept. 13.

High Island, located about 70 miles southeast of Houston, is known for attracting visitors as a prime bird watching spot.
