LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) _ Texas Tech University says it has raised $24.3 million in private donations and will receive the remaining dollars from a state matching fund designed to help Texas’ seven emerging research universities.
Tech’s gifts will leverage $21.5 million from the new Texas Research Incentive Program, a move that places Tech on top of what’s been a fierce competition for matching dollars.
The $50 million lawmakers set aside for the fund is just about depleted. Tuesday was the first day universities could report gifts that qualified for a state match.
In addition to Texas Tech, the other universities are the University of Houston, the University of North Texas in Denton and University of Texas campuses in Arlington, Dallas, El Paso and San Antonio.
