Habitat for Humanity’s 2016 Builder’s Blitz

Bryan/College Station Habitat for Humanity is finishing its largest subdivision this month.

In partnership with Habitat for Humanity, the Greater Brazos Builders Association started construction of Angels Gate, a Bryan subdivision, in 2006.

Carl Orozco, Habitat’s Director of Development, said construction of the final two lots will complete the 10-year project and bring the total number of homes to 106 in Angels Gate.

Orozco said the Greater Brazos Builders Association is donating their time and labor, but community support is still needed to complete the project.

“Hard costs, they are what they are, construction in this town is certainly expensive, and that’s why we need help from the public,” said Orozco.

The Builder’s Blitz begins on October 24th, and Orozco said every penny counts.

“$250 as an example buys the door or buys a window in a house. Something as little as $25 buys the box of nails. $50-$100 buys us a number of studs, wood studs that we use to create the walls,” said Orozco.
