Friday is the grand opening and ribbon cutting for phase one of the Fun for All Playground at Central Park.
The idea for the inclusive playground for people with special needs was presented to the city in 2013.
Lisa Aldrich, Publicity Chair, says several service and community organizations have contributed.
“This is truly a community project,” said Aldrich about the privately-funded project.
Aldrich said phase one includes, among other things, multiple swing units, climbing units and a splash pad.
“The biggest thing about our playground is the accessibility to all. You think about kids when you think “playgrounds”, but think about that parent that may be in a wheelchair and wants to go to the park with their family,” said Aldrich.
Friday’s grand opening event includes family activities, music, food, and more. It begins at 4 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
