GOP Governor Debate to Include 3

DALLAS (AP) _ Sponsors say a debate between Gov. Rick Perry and U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison to be televised statewide next week will be a three-way affair.

Dallas-Fort Worth public television station KERA-TV, which is producing the 7 p.m. Jan. 14 telecast and webcast, has invited conservative Debra Medina to join the debate among Republican candidates for governor.

A statement issued by KERA on Tuesday says Medina met its criteria for inclusion by conducting an active campaign and generating media and public interest.

Among Medina’s campaign promises is to push for repeal of the property tax and replace it with a broader-based state sales tax. She also proposes nullification of federal mandates involving agriculture, energy, education, health care, industry and firearms ownership.

Sponsoring the debate with KERA at the University of North Texas in Denton are Dallas-Fort Worth television stations KTVT-KTXA and KUVN, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, the Texas Association of Broadcasters, Texas State Networks and the Freedom of Information Foundation of Texas.
