Gibbons Creek Reservoir Hours Changing on October 1st

October 1st begins new hours at Gibbons Creek Reservoir in Grimes County.  The park will be closed Mondays through Thursdays except for three holidays.

Manager David Godfrey says operating hours will be expanded from sunrise to sunset on Fridays through Sundays.

Godfrey says the park will also be open Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day, regardless of the day of the week. In the past, the park was closed on Wednesdays.

Godfrey says the changes reflect actual usage, where there few if any visitors during the week and there were requests to stay open past 6 p.m. on the weekends.

Godfrey says there would be no additional reductions in the workforce, following layoffs earlier this year.

Gibbons Creek Reservoir is owned by the Texas Municipal Power Agency. The lake supplies cooling water to the nearby coal-fired power plant.
