The 5th ranked A&M Women’s basketball team let Louisiana Monroe hang around for most of the first half last night but by halftime the overmatch Warhawks trailed by 17 and the Ags poured it on in the second half to get a 105-57 win in their final non-conference game of the year and go to 12-1.
Danielle Adams was one point shy of matching her career high with 32 points while Tyra White added a career high matching 22 points.
It all gets real serious for the Aggies Saturday night at Reed Arena as Big 12 play starts with Colorado coming to town. After that A&M plays four-of-five conference games on the road.
The Aggie women did retain the No. 5 ranking put out by the coaches yesterday as Baylor was ranked No. 1. Just like the AP vote, the Lady Bears got the top spot over UConn after UConn’s loss to Stanford last weekend. Stanford is 4th in both polls.
District play has started in high school hopes and last night Bryan High beat Cove at Viking Gym 74-67 behind 31 points from J-Mychal Reese. Bryan is 2-0 in the league. The Consol girls fell to Shoemaker 54-42 and the Rudder girls beat Manor 89-78. Fatima Adams scored 25 for the Rangers.
The Consol boys went to 1-1in distreict with a 62-55 win over Shoemaker at Tiger Gym. They had led the game by 21 at half. Alex Caruso led Consol with 17 points.
You may have heard about this incident over the weekend involving ESPN veteran announcer Ron Franklin. Franklin publically apologized for inappropriate remarks he made to sideline reporter Jeanine Edwards during a production meeting last week prior to the broadcast of the Chick-Fila Bowl. He was later pulled from the Fiesta Bowl Radio Broadcast. Well yesterday ESPN fired Franklin who has worked for the network since 1987. He had previously been the lead announcer for ESPN’s Monday Night College Basketball Games and had worked mainly Big 12 Football Games.
