George H.W. Bush Is In The Hospital And Barbara Bush Remembrance Program To Be Held Tuesday Evening

HOUSTON (AP) _ A family spokesman says former President George H.W. Bush has been hospitalized in Houston with an infection, just after attending the funeral of his wife Barbara.

Jim McGrath says on Twitter that the 93-year-old Bush is “responding to treatments and appears to be recovering.” He says he was admitted to Houston Methodist Hospital Sunday morning after an infection spread to his blood.

Barbara Bush was laid to rest Saturday in a ceremony attended by her husband and former presidents Bill Clinton, Barack Obama, George W. Bush and their spouses, along with current first lady Melania Trump.

Quoting the statement from spokesman Jim McGrath:

“President Bush was admitted to the Houston Methodist Hospital yesterday morning after contracting an infection that spread to his blood. He is responding to treatments and appears to be recovering. We will issue additional updates as events warrant.”

Texas A&M has announced there will be a public remembrance ceremony for Barbara Bush Tuesday evening at the fountain plaza in front of the Bush Library and Museum.

Tuesday’s program, which starts at 8 p.m., is being organized by the library’s public programs interns.

Meantime, the gravesite of the former First Lady will remain open to the public during regular hours, which are Monday through Saturday from 9:30 until 5 and Sunday from noon to until 5 p.m.

Free admission at the Bush Library and Museum continues Tuesday from 9:30 until 8.
