CHICAGO – Honors continued to roll in for Texas A&M sophomore pass-rusher Myles Garrett (Arlington, Texas) on Friday, who was named a finalist for the Hendricks Award given annually to the nation’s top defensive end by the Ted Hendricks Foundation.
The Southeastern Conference leader in quarterback sacks, tackles for loss and forced fumbles, Garrett joins Oregon’s DeForest Buckner, Michigan State’s Shilique Calhoun, Clemson’s Shaq Lawson, Penn State’s Carl Nassib and Oklahoma State’s Emmanuel Ogbah as finalists for the prestigious award.
The award is named for three-time American Ted Hendricks from University of Miami (Fla.), who was nicknamed the “Mad Stork” due to his long arms and 6-foot-7 frame. Hendricks went on to play 16 seasons in the NFL, and his career highlights include a Super Bowl victory with the Los Angeles Raiders and being inducted in the NFL Hall of Fame in 1990.
Garrett was named college football’s top defensive lineman on Thursday when he received the Bill Willis Award from the Touchdown Club of Columbus (Ohio). Additionally, Garrett is a finalist for the Rotary Lombardi Award, which is given annually to the college lineman of the year.
