The College Station council approved its second budget amendment of the 2025 fiscal year at last Thursday’s meeting (May 8) as recommended by fiscal services director Mary Ellen Leonard.
One of the amendments affects the Fun For All playground. Donations make up $242,418 of the $463,546 dollar amendment that will go towards the purchase of a shade structure, a donor wall, and “other minor additions”.
Another amendment affects College Station’s Northgate district, adding $62,360 dollars for a supervisor. Leonard said this followed the retirement of the director of the community services department and the departure of the department’s assistant director. A city spokesman tells WTAW News community services is now part of the planning and development department.
There are two amendments regarding public safety. There is a state grant of $554,400 for two police officers specializing in mental health cases. And the fire department received a grant of $697,361 to pay for six months of salaries, benefits, training, and uniforms of 12 firefighters.
