Ft. Worth Mayor Clarifies Gay Bar Raid Apology

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) _ A police report indicates officers had observed an extremely intoxicated man leaving a Fort Worth gay bar two days before a raid.

WFAA-TV cites a police report on the June 28 joint raid at the Rainbow Lounge, including Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission officers.

A patron was seriously injured, with a head injury, during the raid.

Fort Worth Mayor Mike Moncrief on Tuesday night apologized, during a packed city council meeting, over the incident. Moncrief later said his apology wasn’t for the raid, but for a man being seriously hurt.

City spokesman Bill Begley said Wednesday that the mayor has asked federal prosecutors to review the police investigation of the joint raid.
