FAIRFIELD, Texas (AP) _ Authorities say the Freestone County sheriff has been indicted and a sheriff’s captain arrested for submitting fraudulent information to the state agency that oversees law enforcement training standards.
Freestone District Attorney Chris Martin says Sheriff Thomas Anderson turned himself in to Travis County authorities Thursday morning. He was indicted this week on 20 felony counts of tampering with government records.
Martin says Freestone sheriff’s Captain Travis Robertson was arrested Wednesday on three counts of tampering with government records.
Martin says the investigation stems from material submitted to the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education, based in Austin.
Neither the sheriff nor Robertson were immediately available for comment this afternoon.
Freestone County is about 80 miles southeast of Dallas.
