
FORT HOOD, Texas (AP) _ A Central Texas soldier is one of two U.S. soldiers killed in an insurgent attack in Afghanistan.
The Defense Department says 32-year-old Sgt. Scott H. Burgess of Franklin, Texas, and 26-year-old Sgt. Michael S. Lammerts of Tonawanda, N.Y., died Tuesday of wounds from small-arms fire suffered in Faryab province in northern Afghanistan.
They were assigned to 1st Battalion, 84th Field Artillery Regiment, 170th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, Baumholder, Germany.
Meanwhile, a 32-year-old Fort Hood soldier has died in a noncombat-related incident in the Iraq city of Mosul.
Fort Hood spokesman Chris Haug says Sgt. Jorge Scatliffe of St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands died Sunday of a medical condition. He was assigned to 27th Brigade Support Battalion, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division.
