The state agency that accredits law enforcement officers has been investigating the Franklin police department’s chief and one of its officers.

That led the Franklin city council on Tuesday (May 12) to suspend with pay chief Terry Thibodeaux, who has been with the department for 25 years and officer John Key, who has been there for six years.

A city statement to WTAW news says both men have the opportunity to speak in public at the council’s regular meeting next Monday (May 18).

Remaining officers are continuing to provide law enforcement.

The city and the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement have not released information about the state’s investigation.

The paid suspensions continue through the next council meeting.
