Four Aggies Earn All-SEC Accolades

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama – The Texas A&M Aggies had three players named to the All-SEC team in their first season of affiliation, the league announced on Tuesday. The Maroon and White also had two players named to the SEC All-Defensive Team.

Krey Bratsen, Daniel Mengden and Mikey Reynolds were named to the All-SEC Second Team.

Only LSU (6) and Vanderbilt (4) had more players named to the two All-SEC squads. Ole Miss and Mississippi State also had three apiece. Arkansas and South Carolina each had two players named to the teams. Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Kentucky and Missouri had one player selected. Florida and Tennessee were shut out from the teams.

Mengden and Cole Lankford were selected for the SEC All-Defensive Team.

Bratsen was named as one of the three second-team outfielders. He is hitting .287 on the year with 28 runs, eight doubles, one home run, 22 RBI and 17 stolen bases. The Bryan, Texas native is the only Aggie to play in all 59 games in 2013. In 29 SEC games, he batted .340 with 14 runs, five doubles, one home run, 10 RBI and eight stolen bases.

Mengden was picked for the second-team utility/designated hitter spot. On the mound, the right-hander is 8-3 with a 1.84 ERA, two complete-games and 91 strikeouts in 107.1 innings. He is holding opponents to a .193 batting average and was named the SEC Pitcher of the Week on one occasion. When not pitching, Mengden split time between right field (10 starts) and designated hitter (26 starts), batting .283 with 19 runs, three doubles, two triples, three home runs, 14 RBI and three steals in 39 games. In league play, Mengden posted a 4-2 record with a 1.88 ERA, one complete-game and 56 strikeouts in 10 starts. At the plate, he tallied six runs, one home run, three RBI and two steals in 13 SEC games.

Reynolds shared second-team shortstop recognition with Alabama’s Mikey White. Reynolds leads Texas A&M with a .343 batting average, 38 runs and 18 stolen bases and has 12 doubles, one triple, one home run and 24 RBI in 57 games. In league play, he hit .292 with 15 runs, seven doubles, one triple, 10 RBI and five steals.

Reynolds, who earned All-Big 12 Second Team as a junior in 2012, joins Jason Stephens and Jason Tyner as the only players in school history to earn all-conference honors in two different leagues. Stephens earned All-SWC in 1996 and All-Big 12 in ‘97 and ’98. Tyner was All-SWC in ’96 and All-Big 12 in ’97.

Mengden was selected as the all-defensive team pitcher and Lankford shared first base honors with LSU’s Mason Katz. Mengden owns a .925 fielding percentage on the mound and has helped turn two double plays. Lankford boasts a .989 fielding percentage with just five errors on the season and has taken part in 30 double plays.
