Former Texas A&M head men’s basketball coach Tony Barone has died following a lengthy battle with cancer. He was 72.
Barone coached the Aggies from 1991-98, where he led them to a 69 – 120 overall record.

His best season came in 1993-94, when the Maroon & White finished 19-11 overall and 10-4 in the Southwest Conference, earning a berth in the NIT Tournament.
After his time at Texas A&M, Barone served on the staff of the NBA’s Memphis Grizzlies before becoming their interim head coach during the 2006-07 season.
College Station native Jason Cornelius, who played for Barone at Texas A&M from 1995-99, shared his thoughts on his former coach’s passing.
