Former Detroit Mayor Moves to Texas

DALLAS (AP) _ Ex-Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick has rejoined his family in Texas and says his 99-day jail stay was “an incredibly purifying process” and the most time he’s had to be with himself and God.

Kilpatrick flew by private jet to Dallas Love Field from Michigan’s Willow Run Airport after the former mayor was released early Tuesday morning from the Wayne County jail.

His lawyers say Kilpatrick, 38, was in Texas for a job interview.

Standing next to wife Carlita, Kilpatrick told Dallas-Fort Worth’s WFAA-TV tonight it was hard to be separated from her and his three young sons.

The Detroit Free Press reports the Kilpatricks have a 2,800-square-foot rental home in the affluent north Dallas suburb
of Southlake.

Southlake neighbor Bryson Sinor said Carlita Kilpatrick and their three boys moved in several months ago.

A text-messaging sex scandal ended in Kilpatrick’s arrest, plea deal and jailing. He remains on probation for five years.
