Retirement didn’t last long for former College Station assistant police chief Larry Johnson.

After stepping down last April after 34 years, he says the city of Prairie View approached him in December to be a consultant.

That led to being hired fulltime.

Before taking the job, Johnson says he told the Prairie View city council he had filed for a Brazos County justice of the peace seat.

Johnson is also a pastor at a church in Bryan.
