Former Bryan Police Chief Alleges Racism

Former Bryan Police Chief Ty Morrow, who was relieved of his duties as Police Chief in Freeport, is now running for Mayor of the Gulf Coast city.

Audio from the Ty Morrow campaign video.

In a campaign video, Morrow alleges racism in Bryan/College Station.

Morrow stated “Being a black man in a racist city like Bryan/College Station, if I had done anything that they could have prosecuted me for, I would have been under the jail. Not in it. I would have been under it.”

A WTAW News story in June 2009 reported Morrow stating he “dishonored the uniform of the Bryan Police Department and was resigning.” That announcement ended almost eight months of uncertainty about Morrow’s future with the city, following a domestic disturbance at his home in November 2008. Morrow called police to his home after an altercation with his wife.

Morrow became Freeport Police Chief in February 2010. According to The Facts newspaper, Morrow was relieved of his duties in January 2013 and the Freeport City Council approved a separation agreement during its February 4 meeting where he will receive retirement benefits and $100,000 dollars severance pay.

Morrow also speaks to the Freeport job in the campaign video, stating there is an effort in Freeport as there was in Bryan of conducting a “political witchhunt” and “whisper campaign” “in an effort to undermine the integrity that I possess.” Morrow goes on to say “And my integrity is unquestionable. My ethics are unquestionable. My accountability is unquestionable. Have I made mistakes? Absolutely. I am human like everybody else. And I will have my down days. But I can assure you this, when it comes to conducting the city’s business, it will be done with integrity, it will be done with ethics, and it will be done with accountability for everyone. Not just a select few.”
