SAN ANGELO, Texas (AP) _ A judge in San Angelo says an alleged child bride of jailed polygamist sect leader Warren Jeffs will be allowed to leave foster care.
The judge agreed to let the 14-year-old — the only child from the Yearning For Zion Ranch still in foster care — stay with a distant relative.
Another hearing is Sept. 9, when the girl could be permanently placed with the relative.
The girl, allegedly married to Jeffs at 12, was returned to foster care last August after her mother refused to guarantee the child’s safety.
She was among more than 400 children removed from the ranch in April 2008. Most were later returned to their parents.
The girl — in photos seized from the ranch — was seen kissing Jeffs.
Jeffs was convicted in Utah as an accomplice to rape. He faces similar charges in Arizona, plus Texas charges of sexual assault of a child and bigamy.
