Fires Spreading in North Texas

PARADISE, Texas (AP) _ A wildfire in a rural North Texas area north of Fort Worth has destroyed five homes and threatened about 20 others.

Wise County Fire Marshal Marc Dodd says the fire blackened 500 acres after breaking out early Wednesday afternoon.

As many as 60 homes were evacuated as a task force of ground and aerial firefighting forces were being brought to bear on the fire near the Wise County town of Paradise. That’s about 35 miles northwest of Fort Worth near Lake Bridgeport.

Dodd said fire crews from Texas Forest Service and 13 nearby fire departments had the fire about 60 percent contained late Wednesday night and all evacuation orders had been lifted.
