Fire at Texas Avenue Kroger

News release courtesy of the College Station Fire Department:

An afternoon fire involving a refrigeration unit compressor for a cold display forced the evacuation of the Kroger Store at 2412 Texas Avenue.

There were no injuries reported.

Fire department units responded to a report of smoke filling the store at 1649 hours.

The first unit arrived on the scene at 1652 hours and reported that the store had been evacuated and that there was light smoke coming from the front doors of the store.

When crews entered the store to investigate they reported moderately heavy smoke inside that appeared to be increasing.

A search of the building showed a refrigeration unit compressor that was of fire and it was quickly extinguished.

The fire was called under control at 1705 hours.

Crews worked for about forty minutes to clear smoke from the store.

At the time of this report the store remains closed.
