Roof repairs at a College Station hotel resulted in a fire Thursday afternoon (October 23). A College Station fire spokesman says no one was injured as CSFD and Bryan firefighters responded just after three p.m. to the old LaQuinta behind Denny’s on Texas south of University. The cause of the fire is the improper use of a heat gun on roofing material. The fire burned into the attic space over the lobby and office area. While some hotel rooms were occupied, the number of displaced guests is not known.

A scooter was struck by a pickup Thursday (October 23) while in a crosswalk by Bryan’s Mitchell elementary school. A Bryan police spokesman says a young man sustained minor injuries. He was taken by a private vehicle to a local emergency room. The driver of the pickup was ticketed for failing to yield the right of way for someone in a pedestrian crossing.
