SAN ANTONIO (AP) _ Heavy smoke from a grease fire forced officials to evacuate part of a mall on San Antonio’s famous Riverwalk, and a pair of restaurants remain closed for cleanup.
Rivercenter Mall General Manager Chris Oviatt said about a third of the complex was cleared for more than two hours Monday after firefighters responded to a call shortly before 11 a.m. and extinguished a blaze contained in a kitchen grease duct.
Oviatt said the mall is operating normally after authorities gave the all-clear. He said two restaurants were still closed due to smoke and water damage.
There were no injuries. Oviatt estimated the damage at “tens of thousands of dollars.”
The Riverwalk, a popular tourist attraction, winds through downtown San Antonio.
