Fire Destroys CS Home While Family Watches Movies at a Relative’s House

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) _ A Central Texas woman and her three children who at the last minute stayed with a relative after watching movies escaped harm when their house across the street burned.

Frantic relatives searched for Tranika Montgomery and her youngsters as their College Station home went up in flames. Authorities are trying to determine what caused the fire early Tuesday.

Montgomery’s daughters, ages 13 and 8, and her 5-year-old son wanted to watch some rented DVDs. Montgomery’s aunt lives nearby and that’s where the family went Monday for movie night.

Montgomery says her children fell asleep so they all just stayed over. Anxious relatives looking for the family pounded on the door of the aunt’s place during the fire.

Montgomery’s house and car were destroyed. The American Red Cross has offered help.
