The trial judge then sentenced 52 year old Moses Galvan to 30 years in prison.
Prosecutors say the victim still has physical issues from the attack after he suffered a skull fracture and broken vertebrae.
Galvan, who was described in a district attorney’s office news release as a high ranking gang member, was the only one of the group who did not make a plea agreement.
Two others received four and five year prison sentences. And the remaining two were each given five years probation.
Galvan’s jury trial was in October 2025. But sentencing did not take place until January 28th.
News release from the Brazos County district attorney’s office:
Moses Galvan, a high ranking member of the Latin Kings criminal street gang, was sentenced to 30 years in prison for his role in an aggravated assault.
On October 8, 2025, a Brazos County Jury convicted Galvan of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon at the conclusion of a three day jury trial.
On February 11, 2023, the victim and a relative were at a bar in downtown Bryan having drinks. While inside the bar there was an altercation in the bathroom where the victim’s relative was pushed. As they were leaving the bar the victim and his relative where ambushed by the defendant and several other individuals. The group violently assaulted the victim, and then took his wallet and jewelry.
The victim suffered serious injuries including a skull fracture and broken vertebrae. Through the police investigation and video surveillance, the defendant was identified as the most aggressive of the perpetrators that night.
During the contested punishment hearing, prosecutors presented evidence that the defendant had previously been sentenced to prison for multiple violent offenses, both in Texas and Illinois. Because of the defendant’s criminal history the state asked for a more significant prison sentence than the court handed out.
