AUSTIN, Texas (AP) _ Texas is moving forward with road and bridge maintenance projects to be paid for by $505 million in federal economic stimulus money.
The Texas Transportation Commission is expected to approve $1.2 billion in bigger highway projects using the federal cash next week.
Texas is set to get $2.25 billion in transportation money from the stimulus plan that was signed into law last week by President Barack Obama.
Some lawmakers from Laredo told the commission they were disappointed that a high-profile item in their area isn’t on the list of larger highway projects for next week.
That road would parallel U.S. Highway 83, which is heavily congested, and take some of its traffic outside Laredo.
