GEORGETOWN, Texas (AP) _ Georgetown police are investigating why a man, with his 5-year-old son in his car, drove the vehicle off a boat ramp into a lake, killing them both.
The bodies of 31-year-old Scott Douglas Hughes of Georgetown and his son, Ethan, have been recovered from Lake Georgetown. Assistant Chief Kevin Stofle says both were dead at the scene early Sunday. Autopsies have been ordered.
Four witnesses reported seeing the car drive off the ramp around 11 p.m. Saturday.
Stofle says about a dozen law officers who responded went into the water to try to rescue the pair, at a depth of about 20 feet.
Stofle says two of the car’s windows were down when the vehicle was recovered from the lake.
