Fatal Apartment Fire in CS

A College Station woman is dead from a fire in her apartment. She has been identified as 62 year old Mary Hollliday.

College Station Fire units responded Saturday night just before midnight to the Meridian Apartments at 309 Redmond Drive, behind the Aggieland Inn or the former Ramada motel.

Investigators believe the fire was cooking related and had extinguished itself before firefighters arrived. The fire was in a second floor apartment.

Someone living in a first floor unit notified authorities. The victim, found in the living room, had a weak pulse when found by emergency medical personnel. She was transported to The Med where she was pronounced dead.

Four people living in three other apartments, all A&M students, will be temporarily displaced. The fire department has not disclosed a damage estimate.

Bart Humphreys of the College Station Fire Department says this is the first fire fatality in several years.
