EL PASO, Texas (AP) _ Four former principals with the El Paso Independent School District say they were intimidated and retaliated against for refusing to participate in a broad cheating scheme cooked up by top administrators.
The El Paso Times reports former principals of four high schools were forced out by former Superintendent Lorenzo Garcia’s administration.
Garcia has pleaded guilty to charges related to a scheme designed to make it appear the district was meeting federal requirements by forcing some students to drop out, preventing some from enrolling, stripping foreign students of credits and sending false data to state and federal agencies.
Former principal of Jefferson High School Steven Lane says he reported unethical and illegal practices to the Texas Education Agency and the U.S. Department of Agency in 2010 but received no response.
