Edwards Holds Telephone Town Hall

An event that was supposed to have been made available to about 200,000 people across Congressional District 17 seemed to come off as planned.

The call lasted for about 90 minutes Thursday evening and during that time Edwards took 13 calls and made some remarks not in response to a direct question for about 12 minutes.

The vast majority of callers offered some form of praise to Edwards, and at no point did the debate become heated.

Edwards says there are roughly 140,000 people without health insurance in District 17.

He also says every Texan with health insurance is spending about $1,800 a year in extra health insurance premiums because of those without coverage.

While Edwards admits he has not read the entire House bill at this point, he told those on the line that he would not vote on a bill he did not read and understand fully.

He also says Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi will have no influence on how he votes on the issue.

Edwards has agreed to a broadcast town hall event Saturday at noon here on WTAW.
