Driverless vehicles are coming to downtown Bryan.
The Bryan city council Tuesday night approved agreements to allow battery operated shuttles to drive a loop bordered by 26th, Regent, 28th, and Main.
Mayor Andrew Nelson, who is a member of A&M’s mechanical engineering industry advisory committee, said he made the suggestion as a proving ground for autonomous vehicles.
The electric vehicles, owned by the Texas A&M engineering experiment station, will include a TEES safety driver.
Passengers will be able to get on and off at one of five designated locations when the shuttle runs weekdays for two hours between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
The shuttle would also operate the evening of downtown Bryan’s First Friday in November.
The vehicles will be stored at the Brazos Transit District’s parking garage, and the city will install electrical service to the garage.
