DPS Reports Five Aggies Expected to Survive Weekend Crash

CUT AND SHOOT, Texas (AP) _ Texas officials say five engineering students from Texas A&M University who were hospitalized after a weekend wreck are expected to survive.

The Texas Department of Public Safety said Monday that troopers are working to determine what caused a truck in Montgomery County to veer across the center lane on Sunday night and hit the graduate students. They were returning from a holiday road trip to New Orleans.

Officials say the vehicles weren’t speeding and alcohol wasn’t involved.

It took first responders about 30 minutes to free the students from the vehicle. Two were listed in critical condition on Monday and officials described the other three as stable.

The truck driver wasn’t seriously injured.
