Dallas Cowboys defensive end Demarcus Lawrence suffered an injury and had to be carted off the field at practice on Tuesday, and according to ESPN’s Todd Archer, the team confirmed their suspicion that Lawrence had broken his foot, sidelining him 8-10 weeks.
Lawrence was trying to get past, but Smith kept on him and eventually threw him to the ground. It’s unclear what the actual injury was, but there is video of the play in which it happened, via Pat Doney of NBC on Vine:
Lawrence struggled to put weight on the ankle immediately after suffering the injury.
Lawrence was the No. 34 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, and was expected to earn significant playing time this season.
The Cowboys are trying to improve on one of the league’s worst defenses. After parting ways with pass rusher DeMarcus Ware, the team was banking on Lawrence stepping up in his rookie year. Lawrence was one of the best pass rushers in this draft and would be able to play and possibly start early on if the injury isn’t too serious.
