Dedication of Boonville Heritage Park Cabin, Six Flags Plaza, and Cannon

Almost 40 years in the making, there is a historical park celebrating the first county seat of Brazos County.

Friday morning was the dedication of the first phase of Boonville Heritage Park, in front of Boonville Cemetery.

Speakers included Henry Mayo of the Brazos County Historical Society, who presented background of how Boonville was selected the county seat for 25 years before it was moved to Bryan.

The park features the Turner-Peters cabin, which was built near Carlos in 1856. Another speaker was Stephanie Sale, who is a descendant of the Turner family.

Mervin Peters of the William Joel Bryan chapter of the Sons of the Republic of Texas thanked the contributors to the project, which also includes a six flags of Texas plaza and a donated replica of a Twin Sisters cannon used in the Battle of San Jacinto.
