Death Of Former Brazos County Judge, Texas A&M Student and Employee, And Army Veteran Al Jones

Brazos County officials announces the death of former county judge Al Jones.

Brazos County social media says Jones was county judge between 1995 and 2002.

Before being elected, the Texas A&M Association of Former Students website says Jones, Aggie class of 1966, was employed at the university for 32 years.

Jones also served in the U.S. Army, retiring in May 1991 after serving 39 years with the rank of Major General.

He entered the service in 1952 and was commissioned as a Corps of Engineer Officer in June of 1953. He served in Korea and Guam in 1953 and 1954. After being separated from active duty, Jones became a member of the U.S. Army Reserve serving in many key positions including the Commander of the 420th Engineer Brigade and the 377th Theater Support Command.

The Texas State Directory website says Jones was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal, the Legion of Merit and the Meritorious Service Medal.

A news release from the Brazos County sheriff’s office says Jones was identified as the man who was found unresponsive near a vehicle with its door open on OSR highway near Sandy Point Road on Thursday afternoon (September 4). Preliminary findings indicate the individual had fallen. At this time, there are no signs of foul play.

Alvin “Al” Jones was 94 years old.
