Deadmon Advances to U.S. Olympic Trials 400m Final

EUGENE, Ore. – Texas A&M track & field’s Bryce Deadmon advanced to the U.S. Olympic Team Trials 400m final Saturday night at Hayward Field.

The Missouri City, Texas, native, finished third in heat one with a time of 45.17. Deadmon’s third place finish earned him an automatic qualifying spot to Sunday’s race. The 400m final is scheduled to broadcast live on national television on NBC at 9:15 p.m. CT.

Brandon Miller placed seventh in the first heat of the men’s 800m with a time of 1:47.65, placing him 15th overall. Miller ends his freshman campaign a two-time Southeastern Conference 800m champion and a First Team All-American as the NCAA outdoor 800m runner-up. The 19-year-old finished 2021 with a season best time of 1:44.97, ranking him the third fastest American under-20 all-time. His personal best also ranks him as the third fastest performer in school history and is the fourth fastest performance all-time.

Aggie professional Donavan Brazier placed second in the first heat with a time of 1:46.57, earning him the automatic qualifying spot in Monday’s final at 7:28 p.m. CT. Brazier, the American record holder, is racing for a spot to be on his first career U.S. Olympic Team.

Former Texas A&M student-athletes, Sam Hardin and Jacob Wooten advanced in their respective events. Hardin placed 11th in the qualifying round of the javelin with a throw of 227-2 (69.25m), while Wooten cleared 18-6.5 (5.65m) to advance to the men’s pole vault final. The pair of Aggies will be in finals action on Monday as Wooten competes at 5:30 p.m. CT and Hardin at 6:15 p.m. CT.

Jessica Beard clocked 51.49 in the women’s 400m semifinals, coming up one spot short of advancing to the finals, while Audie Wyatt failed to clear 18-0.5 (5.50m) in the men’s pole vault resulting in a 19th place finish.
