Dallas Toddler Dies in Hot Van

DALLAS (AP) _ A 2-year-old boy has died after being left alone in a day-care center van for several hours outside a Dallas elementary school.

A police spokesman says heat inside the van is a suspected factor in the child’s death.

Police Sgt. Warren Mitchell says a 3-year-old girl found the unconscious child about 3:30 p.m. Thursday in the back of the van outside the Paul Dunbar Learning Center, just south of downtown Dallas near Fair Park.

The boy was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Temperatures were in the mid-90s Thursday afternoon. It was not clear how long the child had been in the van.

No charges have been filed, but the investigation continues.
