DALLAS (AP) _ Demolition of Reunion Arena is expected to begin in April.
The Dallas City Council on Wednesday approved a more than $2 million contract with A&R Demolition to bring down the former sports and entertainment venue.
Reunion Arena in June 2008 hosted its last event, a Spanish-language religious service.
The arena, which opened in 1980, had lost money since the larger, high-tech American Airlines Center opened in 2001.
Reunion Arena formerly was home to the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks and the NHL’s Dallas Stars, plus hosted numerous concerts.
