Dallas Cop in NFL Player Stop Quits

DALLAS (AP) _ A Dallas policeman who pulled his gun and threatened an NFL player with jail — and didn’t let him into a hospital where his mother-in-law was dying — has quit.

Officer Robert Powell was placed on leave over the March 18 incident when he stopped an SUV driven by Houston Texans running back Ryan Moats.

The exchange between Moats and the officer was captured on the patrol car’s dash cam, including the officer saying: “I can screw you over.” Powell later apologized.

Moats’ agent, Jordan Woy, said the couple has accepted the apology.

Dallas-Fort Worth television station KTVT reported last night that a planned meeting between Powell and the Moatses would not happen.

Powell’s attorney Bob Gorsky told the television station that they were told the apology would have to be made publicly and with the media present. He said they felt those terms were unacceptable.

Woy said in an e-mail to The Associated Press that there would be no meeting.
