CSISD Superintendent Eddie Coulson Announces His Retirement

College Station school district superintendent Eddie Coulson announced his retirement Thursday morning.

His last day is June 27th.

School board president Valerie Jochen says they will meet in executive session next Monday to begin discussing the district’s future leadership.

Dr. Coulson is finishing his eighth year as superintendent and 17 years with CSISD. He was a deputy superintendent for five years and before that was human resources director for four years.

As superintendent, Coulson guided the district through the passage of four bond issues, the most recent being last November.

College Station ISD Superintendent Eddie Coulson announced his retirement today at an 11 a.m. press conference.

Coulson has spent 29 years in public education, serving in Spring ISD for 12 years and the last 17 years in College Station ISD. Coulson has served as the CSISD superintendent since September 1, 2006.

His last day of work for CSISD will be Friday, June 27, 2014.

“I am extremely grateful for the support I have received from my family, students, staff, parents and the School Board in College Station ISD,” Coulson said. “It’s been a great honor to serve the community in my various roles in CSISD, and I am deeply indebted to many people for their hard work and commitment to the students and families in our community.”

Coulson began his career as a middle school teacher in Spring ISD in 1985. He also served in various school-level administrative positions in Spring, as well a director for human resources. In College Station ISD, Coulson served as the director for human resources and deputy superintendent for curriculum and instruction, before being named superintendent.

“On behalf of the CSISD School Board, I would like to thank Eddie for his contribution and leadership during his 17 years with CSISD and we wish he and Sally the best of luck in their future endeavors,” CSISD Board President Dr. Valerie Jochen said. “Eddie keeps the district’s core mission of educating each student as a priority and its shows in the overall success of CSISD’s academic and extracurricular programs.”

The board will meet in executive session on February 3, to discuss the process and timeline for filling the superintendent position.

Coulson and his wife, Sally, have two children who graduated from A&M Consolidated High School. Scott is a medical student in the Texas A&M Health Science Center and Katie attends law school at Columbia University.

While retiring from his work in the public schools, Coulson anticipates staying in the Brazos Valley and beginning a second career.
