CSISD Foundation Receives $20,000 Check

News release from the CSISD Educational Foundation:

College Station ISD Education Foundation is pleased to announce that Dr. Leonard and Mayor Nancy Berry have endowed a $20,000 scholarship for CSISD graduating seniors.

“Lowe’s made a financial grant to me to use for charitable purposes in honor of my recent retirement from its board of directors following 17 years of service,” Dr. Leonard Berry said. “As someone who has benefited enormously from higher education as both student and professor, I wanted to endow a scholarship that each year will help a promising student with financial need continue his or her education beyond high school.”

The Berrys presented a check to Education Foundation President James Haverland and Director Teresa Benden at the September board meeting. The Berry Family Endowed Scholarship will first be awarded next May and be offered to CSISD graduating seniors who have financial need with a minimum overall GPA of 3.0 and may be used for technical school, junior college or a 4-year university.

“Both of our sons, Matthew and Jonathan, attended College Station schools and graduated from A&M Consolidated High School,” Mayor Nancy Berry said. “It is a privilege to give back to the school district that has served our family so well.”

“Nancy and I hope that our scholarship might encourage others in the community to also establish scholarships,” Dr. Berry said.
