CS School Board Reviews Proposed Bond Packages

No one on the College Station school board expressed an interest in asking voters this November to build a new indoor pool without outside assistance.

The CSISD board members will learn Tuesday from the city council if there is any interest in building and operating a new indoor pool. From a workshop Monday night, the school board has no interest of being the primary player.

The board majority could not justify adding $30 million dollars of debt when the school district has 25 percent of the usage and operated the current natatorium at a yearly deficit of more than $200,000 dollars. Board members also talked about years of deficit budgets after employee layoffs.

Meantime, the school board will be asked next week to take final action on what could be two bond issues. One might be the natatorium by itself and the other is more than $83 million dollars covering the following:

Elementary #9 $20.0 million
Center for Alternative Learning $15.5 million
New Purchasing/Warehouse $7.5 million
Renovate current Operations/Technology/Central Office $6.5 million
AMCHS Renovations $3.5 million
Safety upgrades $3.9 million
Technology $6.1 million
Buses and vehicles $3.0 million
Deferred maintenance $12.0 million
Land acquisition $5.5 million
TOTAL $83.5 million
