Another longtime face in local city government is leaving. College Station Public Works Director Mark Smith has announced his last day is September 30th.
Smith is joining the San Jacinto River Authority as administrator of their groundwater reduction program. Smith is the second department head in College Station to announce they’re leaving in as many weeks.
Last week, Parks and Recreation Director Tony Cisneros announced he was stepping down to pursue other interests. And early next year, City Manager Glenn Brown will retire.
Smith started with the city in 1980 and because director in 1993. Over 30 years, the population of College Station has tripled, Smith was the first director of the joint landfill operation now called BVSWMA, he was in charge of developing the city’s infrastructure along Harvey Mitchell Parkway, and the south end of the city has moved from Southwest Parkway beyond Highway 40.
