Anticipation turned to questions when College Station Mayor Nancy Berry announced Monday evening the city council would not take up a possible compromise involving the Wellborn community.
The mayor did not explain why she pulled the item from the public agenda, after the council discussed it privately in executive session. And that was after the mayor sounded very optimistic about reaching a compromise with Wellborn residents who want a vote on incorporation.
The mayor says the executive session had nothing to do with pulling Wellborn from the public agenda. Berry says it was the number of speakers who asked in advance to talk on other topics:

The mayor says Wellborn will appear on the agenda for the council’s next regular meeting.
A spokesman for Citizens for Wellborn, Gary Potter, says council members have told him they won’t support an incorporation vote because they don’t want College Station involved in future legal battles.

Potter repeated the size of a proposed map of Wellborn has never been an issue with their group as they continue working towards an election on incorporation.
