A College Station man is jailed on bonds totaling $420,000 dollars after he was arrested for strangling then kidnapping his girlfriend.

College Station Police Lt. Lesley Hicks says 31 year old Jacob Braswell is accused of assaulting then taking his girlfriend against her will following a dispute that began in their apartment last weekend.

Hicks says the victim was driven to a home in Burleson County, then she was able to leave on her own hours later. The victim’s friend contacted police, and the victim was checked out for her injuries at a local hospital.

Braswell was picked up Monday afternoon by a Precinct Two Deputy Constable outside a home in the Steep Hollow community east of Bryan. The deputy’s arrest report indicate he had to threaten Braswell twice with a taser before he would get in the patrol car.

Brazos County jail records indicate 14 prior arrests dating back to April 2000. Eight of the arrests were drug related. Court records show Braswell is awaiting trial on a charge of possessing methamphetamine.

Lesley Hicks visits with WTAW’s Bill Oliver.
