College Station firefighters spent part of Thursday afternoon at the KFC restaurant at Texas and Southwest Parkway.
The initial report from CSFD amounts to “small haze, no active fire”.
The Madisonville Fire Department and the Madison County Office of Emergency Management announced that a burn ban is now in effect for Madison County. The ban went into effect at 10:00am on Wednesday, August 5, 2026. The disaster declaration was signed this morning by Madison County Judge Clark Osborne. The wildfire threat is high based on the current Keetch-Byram Drought Index (KBDI) between 500-600. The KBDI ranges from 0 to 800, where a drought index of 0 represents no moisture depletion, and an index of 800 represents absolutely dry conditions. Anything over 600 is considered a severe threat. All outdoor burning is prohibited. Grilling with propane or natural gas is allowed, so long as it is continuously monitored. Outdoor welding is also prohibited unless certain guidelines are met, including contacting the Sheriff’s Office with details. Violating a burn ban is a Class C Misdemeanor, punishable with a fine of up to $500.
A man is behind bars after a domestic dispute unfolded in the McDonald’s drive thru line. College Station Police were called to the McDonald’s on Texas Avenue at Southwest Parkway on Monday just before 6pm. A witness says a man, who was later identified as 24-year-old Isaiah Rashawn Hurd, walked up to the car behind him in the line, opened the driver’s door, yanked the driver from the vehicle, and slammed her to the ground. The witness says the woman got back into her vehicle while Hurd got into the backseat where he choked and struck her. The 23-year-old victim told police that she and Hurd had been dating on and off for four years, but have been apart for the past year. The couple had an argument over their 10-month-old son before she left to get food. The child was in the car at the time of the assault. The police report says they noted visible injuries to the victim and were able to obtain video surveillance from the restaurant. Hurd admitted to the assault and he was arrested and charged with family violence assault with a previous conviction, a 3rd-degree felony. He remains jailed on $45,000 bond. Hurd was previously arrested March 19, 2026 and charged with family violence assault, impeding breath or circulation. He was free on $8,000 bond from that charge.
