Homebuilders and buyers in College Station won’t be facing new impact fees to pay for water and wastewater lines associated with new home construction.
The city council voted 4-2 Thursday against adding $3,000 to pay in advance for new water and wastewater lines.
Councilman John Crompton, who supports impact fees, says the current fee structure amounts to providing welfare to new homeowners.

Jess Fields, who turned down the impact fees Thursday, was willing to take it up again when the economy gets better.

Dennis Maloney, who supports the new impact fee, was confident new homes will continue to be purchased in College Station.

The proposed impact fees would have applied only to homes built in the future on land platted in the future.
McMillan and Fields were joined by Nancy Berry and Dave Ruesink in rejecting the impact fees. Katy-Marie Lyles did not attend Thursday’s meeting due to illness.
